Aspengrove School

Aspengrove School was founded in 2003 and was originally located at 6553 Portsmouth Road in Nanaimo. At the time of its grand opening 42 students and 8 faculty occupied the 1-acre (4,000 m2) lot. The first principal was Cathy Grunlund. Over the summer of 2006, the school relocated and currently operates on a 40-acre (160,000 m2) parcel. There are approximately 310 enrolled students and 50 faculty offering instruction from Jr. Kindergarten for 3-year-olds to Grade 12. The school is accredited as an International Baccalaureate World School[2] and offers the IB Primary Years, IB Middle Years and IB Diploma programme and received a 10 out of 10 from the IB Organization (IBO) in 2011. Aspengrove is currently 14 years old.

Bayview Elementary

Bayview – home of the ‘Boxers’ – is a ‘family friendly’ learning place located in the south end of Nanaimo. We would like to acknowledge that our school is on the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw people. We are a Strong Start – Grade 7 school and currently have 180 students split into 11 divisions. The staff at Bayview strives to create an educational climate that encourages each child to grow academically, physically and socially to the best of his/her ability. Classes and programs are organized to provide each child with successful experiences, appropriate challenges and a sense of achievement. We are committed to creating a safe, warm and nurturing environment for each student.

Brechin Elementary School

Brechin Elementary is one of the oldest elementary schools in beautiful Nanaimo BC. Our current building was completed in 1993. The school was uniquely designed for learning, featuring a full-sized gymnasium, multipurpose room and kitchen, library and computer lab on one side and 10 classrooms on the other. Brechin is a K-7 school with an average population of 200 students. We begin our day in the gym with our morning gathering, where we sing, listen to our morning announcements, and share a common social responsibility message. This community-building time helps to set a positive tone for the week and keeps us all connected to one another as a group of learners.

Cedar Elementary School

Cedar Elementary (K to 7), is located in the heart of Cedar. Our current school population is 350 students. We also house a Strong Start for parents and children ages birth to 5. We work in conjunction with the group of Cedar Schools to provide activities and services that support our school and community.

Chase River Elementary School

Our catchment areas include Extension and Chase River communities. Cilaire Elementary School

Cinnabar Valley Elementary School

Our school opened its doors to students in 2001. Nestled in the heart of Cinnabar Valley, the school currently serves over 290 students, with the expectation of growth in the coming years. Known as the “Valley Vipers”, our school has a rich history of strong academic, athletic, and artistic achievement for our students. Cinnabar Valley is a PBIS school, meaning that we are actively teaching Positive Behaviour to our students, working on a system of intervention and support.

syuw̓én̓ct Elementary

syuw̓én̓ct (Pronounced: SEE-YOU-WHEN-ST) Elementary School, home of the “SPIRITS” is a centrally located elementary school in beautiful Nanaimo B.C.  Formerly named Coal Tyee Elementary, the school opened in 1996 and is one of the youngest schools in our district.

In recognition of our strong relationship with Snuneymuxw First Nation, we looked to them to rename this school in honour of the land, Snuneymuxw teachings and to foster healing for all. The new name, syuw̓én̓ct, means our tradition, our history in hul’q’umi’num, and was passed by the Board on July 6, 2022.

Our school currently enrolls 350 students from Kindergarten to Grade 7.  Being socially responsible citizens is important to us and our community. Our school community strives to be a safe, caring and orderly place for all its members.

Departure Bay Eco School

École Quarterway

Quarterway is also proud to host the Late French Immersion program which begins at grade 6. We serve 47 Late French Immersion students. Frank J Ney School

Frank J. Ney is situated in a beautiful, natural setting surrounded by green spaces, trails and a stream, and the school has the use of Harry Wipper Park field for classes and recess. We are a large sized elementary school of approximately 420 students from K to Grade 7. We have 25 teachers and a staff of 49.  Our parent community is very active in the school and provides support through their work as a P.A.C. (Parent Advisory Committee) and as volunteers in a variety of capacities throughout the year. In addition to the many varied curricular activities at each grade level, students have opportunities to be involved in athletics (track and field, football, volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, etc.), and volunteer in clubs such as Student Leadership.

Georgia Avenue Elementary School

Hammond Bay Elementary School

Currently enrolling 360 students in our school and having a staff of 29, Ecole Hammond Bay was originally constructed in 1969. In 1999, French Immersion was offered as an option in our school district, and Ecole Hammond Bay became a single-track French Immersion school. Our school has grown to 14 divisions, from Kindergarten to Grade 7. Located adjacent to beautiful Neck Point Park, Ecole Hammond Bay is one of the largest French Immersion schools in the School District.  We offer instruction in the French language from Kindergarten to Grade 7.

McGirr Elementary School
